Junk

Junk

Junk began as a confluence of circumstances very idiosyncratic to Los Angeles. I had bought a used camera to play around with and happened to visit The Melrose Trading Post on a whim with some friends in summer of 2015. Surprised by the unexpected wonder in the handful of shots I made that day, flea markets became my regular weekend activity for the rest of the summer.

The images reveal undeniable beauty in that which is discarded and forgotten. That which is put up for sale in bargain bins and overlooked by default. In a city which devours dreams and ambitions at an astounding pace, Junk strives to showcase the melancholy beauty of those things we too hastily discard. The work hopes to remind the observer that there is some of that same beauty in self and neighbor.
